Wrinkle Fillers
Fillers, such as Restylane, Juvederm, Radiesse, and Sculptra, are FDA approved for the treatment of facial wrinkles and folds and are one of the most sought after and most performed minimally invasive cosmetic treatments in the United States second only to Botox Cosmetic.
All procedures are performed by our board certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Mike Majmundar. For more on our other cosmetic services, visit our cosmetic website at www.northsideplasticsurgery.com.
Botox – lasts 3-4 months
Botox Cosmetic is not a wrinkle filler but acts as a wrinkle filler. Botox helps to relax muscles that create lines especially between the brows, around the eyes, and on the forehead. As it relaxes the muscle, the lines in the area soften, as if they were filled. Botox takes less than 10 minutes to perform and begins to work as soon as 3 days.
Because it helps to relax muscles, it can also help with chronic headaches, migraines, TMJ headaches, and/or excessive forehead sweating.
Restylane-L and Juvederm XC – lasts 6-9 months
Restylane-L and Juvederm XC, composed of hyaluronic acid mixed with a local anesthetic, are considered thin fillers and are good for replacing lost volume in thinner regions of the face such as the lips (for lip augmentation) and around the eyes (our Liquid Eyelid Lift) but they may be used to provide volume to other areas of the face. They are also good for filling finer lines and depressed scars. The treatment provides immediate results and can be performed in less half an hour.
Lips are a great place to use fillers such as Restylane-L or Juvederm XC. These treatments provide a plumping effect and help smooth the lines around the lips, mouth, and chin while adding volume to the lips.
Radiesse – lasts 12 months
Radiesse is a slightly thicker filler and helps add volume to laugh lines, smile lines, upper and mid cheeks, the chin, and temples. It can also be used to smooth minor nasal humps. Because it is slightly more viscous, it provides much more volume than thinner fillers such as Restylane or Juvederm. The filler is mixed with a local anesthetic making the treatment comfortable. The treatment provides immediate results and can be performed in less than half an hour.
With its patented microsphere technology, it starts a process called collagen genesis, stimulating your body to produce new collagen and encouraging collagen to grow around the injection area. The benefits of treatment with RADIESSE lasts 13 months on average.
Sculptra – lasts a minimum of 2 years
Sculptra® is not just a wrinkle filler, it is also a facial volumizer. Using Sculptra, we can restore youthful facial contours by filling under the skin so that it inflates or "lifts" the facial tissues. Also known as the “Liquid Facelift”, Sculptra does this by the formation of your body’s own collagen…collagen that is created by surrounding the microscopic particles that make up Sculptra. It provides global rejuvenation to the temples, laugh lines, sagging cheek tissues, and chin. Also, the volume enhancement achieved by Sculptra lasts at least 2 years but may last longer.
Sculptra does not give results immediately. There is a time factor involved since the true volume effect is created by your own collagen, not the product itself. Some patients achieve the desired results as quickly as 3 months though it may take up to 6 months for most patients. Most patients need 2-3 treatments spread 8-10 weeks apart. You can expect the results to last at least 2 years from the last treatment.
Minimal Aftercare
As with all fillers, patients may experience temporary redness, swelling, or bruising (rare). You will be provided with an ice pack after your treatment to use the remainder of the day and to keep your head elevated when sleeping. You may use your makeup and sunscreen immediately after treatment.
